Stars including actors Jim Carrey and Roseanne Barr have visited US comedian Rodney Dangerfield as he recovers from heart surgery.

The 82-year-old performer remains in intensive care at UCLA Medical Center in Los Angeles after his heart valve replacement operation last month.

His Little Nicky co-star Adam Sandler was among a string of visitors.

A spokesman for the comedian said his "full recovery is expected soon", but did not know when he would return home.

'No respect'

Dangerfield is conscious and in a stable condition following the 25 August surgery, but he remains on a respirator.

Dangerfield, whose catchphrase is "I can't get no respect", became known to US audiences during 1960s and 1970s appearances with Ed Sullivan and Dean Martin, and on the Tonight Show.

He also starred in films including 1980s hits Caddyshack, Easy Money and Back to School.
