Matt Groening will be found signing autographs at a sci-fi convention
Matt Groening, creator of The Simpsons, is set to make his first guest voice appearance on the show.

He will star as himself in an episode of the animated series to be broadcast in the US on Sunday.

Character Edna Krabappel will find Groening signing autographs for fans at a sci-fi convention.

Groening's image has appeared on The Simpsons, including a framed photo on the wall of Comic Book Guy's store, but this will be his first speaking role.

In the episode, entitled My Big Fat Geek Wedding, Principal Skinner gets cold feet before his pending nuptials and fiancée Krabappel calls off the wedding.

She rebounds into the arms of Comic Book Guy, who whisks her off to the convention.

Instead of being identified as the creator of The Simpsons, Groening is introduced in the show as the creator of sister series Futurama.

The Twentieth Century Fox TV show The Simpsons is currently moving into its 16th series in the US.
