Pop star and TV presenter Dane Bowers was arrested on suspicion of drink driving in the early hours of Thursday, police have confirmed.

Mr Bowers, 23, a former member of boy band Another Level, was arrested after police stopped him in Romford, Essex.

"Dane Bowers appears before Havering Magistrates Court on 16 April charged with driving with excess alcohol," a Metropolitan Police spokeswoman said.

He has had 11 UK top 10 hits in total, including a duet with Victoria Beckham.

He was arrested at 0245 BST on Thursday and breathalysed at the scene, the spokeswoman said.

Chart success

Another Level burst into the charts in 1998 with a British take on the US R&B sound after being discovered by rapper Jay-Z.

Their hits included UK number one single Freak Me and collaborations with Jay-Z and Ghostface Killah.

The band split in 2000, after which Mr Bowers had solo success and fronted True Steppers, working with Victoria Beckham on Out of Your Mind.

He has also been a TV presenter, including on ITV2's coverage of Popstars: The Rivals.
