Teen band McFly have chalked up their first number one in the UK singles chart, after topping incumbent Usher with the song 5 Colours In Her Hair.

The guitar-playing boy band, who recently toured as support to Busted, made number one in the song's first week in the charts.

Usher's Yeah, featuring Lil' Jon and Ludacris, dropped to number two, with Slow Jamz by Twista at number three.

DJ Casper's novelty record Cha Cha Slide fell two places to number four.

Anastacia was at number five, with Blue, Britney Spears, Atomic Kitten, Kanye West and Outkast completing the rest of the top 10.

Album defeat

British duo Pet Shop Boys just missed out on a top 10 placing with their new song Flamboyant.

Another experienced act, Simply Red, also barely made it into the Top 40, with their song Home making number 40.

In the album chart Usher suffered another defeat as his album Confessions was knocked off number one by Anastacia's new album, Anastacia.

The best-of from hard rock veterans Guns N' Roses moved up one place to number two, while George Michael's new album Patience fell two places to four.

Katie Melua, who sparked an easy-listening revolution with her album Call Off the Search, is at number five.
