It took $27.7m (£17.2m) over the four-day Memorial Day holiday weekend - though it was dwarfed by the second weekend of the Star Wars prequel, The Phantom Menace. Notting Hill is also doing well with British audiences - taking £4.3m over the Bank Holiday weekend, according to Screen International magazine. But in the US, The Phantom Menace is still light years ahead of the pack. It took $66.9m (£41.5m), pushing it comfortably over the $200m mark in just 13 days - a feat which took Independence Day 21 days to achieve in 1996. ![]() |
