Potter movie tops $500m globally
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
The Prisoner of Azkaban is the third Harry Potter film
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has become only the 10th film to top $500m (271.9m) outside the US, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Eleven weeks after its worldwide release the third film in the franchise has taken $505.4m (274.9m).

Sci-fi movie I, Robot is top of the international box office and has now passed the $100m (54.4m) mark.

It took $18.8m (10.2m) from 34 countries over the weekend, putting its total foreign takings at $108m (59m).

Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban has taken more than $750m (408.2m), including its massive US takings. It is now Warner Bros' third most lucrative film in history.

It is proving particularly successful in Japan where it has returned to the top of the box office over the weekend, as the country enjoyed the Obon public holiday.

Slow start

Despite a slow start, the big budget re-telling of King Arthur has just crept over the $70m (38.1m) foreign market figure, and is still to be released in some countries, including Germany.

Alien vs. Predator is currently at the top of the US box office, but has so far only opened elsewhere in Thailand, where it took $1m (544,406) over the weekend.

Shrek 2 continues to set records for an animated film, still pulling in strong worldwide audiences, with a $269.6m (146.7m) total from the past 10 weeks.

Tom Cruise's Collateral opened in five Asian countries at the weekend, pushing its worldwide takings to $2.5m (1.3m) - with many countries still to see it open.
