The Miller family

A new family is being introduced to BBC soap EastEnders in order to drum up conflict with existing characters.

The Millers - featuring father Keith, mother Rosie and their teenage twins - will move into 27 Albert Square.

The show's executive producer Louise Berridge said: "This lot are trouble. Even the dog is dodgy."

The family will be seen stealing from the market, breaking into the Slaters' house and fighting with veteran character Pauline Fowler.

"They're set to cause havoc all over the square and by the end of the first week the sparks will be flying - literally," Ms Berridge added.

Father Keith Miller will be played by David Spinx, who has had small parts in EastEnders twice before.

Daughter Demi Miller will be played by Shana Swash, sister of EastEnders actor Joe Swash, who plays her screen brother Mickey Miller.

Mickey Miller has appeared in the soap since October 2003.

Charlie G Hawkins will play Demi's male twin Darren Miller, and Gerry Cowper will be the mother of the family.

The actress is best known as Trigger's niece in sitcom Only Fools and Horses, but has also appeared in Yes Minister and ITV police soap The Bill.

She said: "I'm delighted to be joining such a prestigious show. I know it's going to be hard work, but I'm looking forward to the challenge."

"Rosie is a fantastic character and one I can really get my teeth into," she added.

Completed by Ghengis the Irish Wolfhound, the Miller family will appear on the BBC One soap from early September.

The family's introduction follows a recent survey in The Mirror newspaper which suggested that 57% of EastEnders viewers thought the soap had lost its appeal.
