Sherman Robertson wants blues with a British perspective
|
US blues singer-songwriter Sherman Robertson is asking fans to send him lyrics for a British blues song he will play on a forthcoming UK tour.
Robertson, who played on Paul Simon's album Graceland, wants to play a blues tune with distinctly British lyrics.
He says British weather, London Underground, speed cameras, failure at sport and Sven Goran Eriksson were all legitimate topics.
The submissions should be made via the artist's website, www.movinmusic.co.uk.
Robertson, who has also performed with Eric Clapton, is playing a 35-date tour of the UK in August and September.
'Humour'
He is looking for "lyrics which deal with these issues but with a particularly British twist, and "is also keen to remind us that sometimes a tragic subject matter - even a British one - can contain humour".
Submissions should be in iambic pentameter and should be between three and six verses long.
Robertson and his band will marry the words to their own music before playing it in the UK.
The winner will get free tickets to the show nearest to their home.
