Duncan Smith lands TV shed role
Iain Duncan Smith
Will Mr Duncan Smith carve out a successful TV career?
Former Tory party leader Iain Duncan Smith has secured a regular slot in a new TV show hosted by Johnny Vaughan.

He will appear once a week to offer his views on political matters in Live At Johnny's, a new daily entertainment show on BBC Three.

Vaughan said he was looking forward to working with Mr Duncan Smith, describing him as "a phenomenon".

Live At Johnny's, which will be broadcast from a custom-built shed, begins on Monday.

It his Vaughan's first live television series since his stint on Channel 4's The Big Breakfast.

Mr Duncan Smith's first foray into public speaking last week only managed to attract an audience of 67 at Liverpool's Philharmonic Hall.

He said he hoped to be able to discuss other things aside from politics on the show.

"I'll even talk about being a season ticket holder for Spurs - and compared to politics, that really hurts," he quipped.

Vaughan said he was "delighted that IDS has agreed to join me every week in my shed for a chinwag and a bit of a gossip".

The presenter has had mixed fortunes since he joined the BBC in 2001 - his sitcom 'Orrible received generally poor reviews but his BBC Three chat show, Johnny Vaughan Tonight, was more successful.

He is replacing Chris Tarrant on London's Capital FM breakfast show in the spring.

Iain Duncan Smith lost his job as Conservative Party leader after narrowly failing to win the backing of enough MPs in a vote of confidence in October.

His novel, The Devil's Tune, which was published soon after, was panned by the critics.
