US rock group Limp Bizkit have been named worst band of the year by readers of Guitar World magazine.

The group's latest album, Results May Vary, sold one million copies in the US in its first 13 weeks of release.

Its predecessor, Chocolate Starfish And The Hotdog Flavored Water, sold four million copies in the same period.

Creed and The Strokes were voted second and third worst bands of 2003, while Led Zeppelin's live CD package How The West Was Won was voted best album.

The White Stripes album Elephant and Audioslave's eponymous album also featured in the list of best albums of the year.

Metallica's latest album St Anger was called the biggest disappointment, but was also named the second best metal album behind Black Label Society's The Blessed Hellride.

And Metallica's Kirk Hammett was voted the best metal guitarist, while Foo Footers' Dave Grohl was named best rock guitarist.

The absence of a long-awaited new album from Guns'N'Roses and the break of Pantera were also listed as big disappointments to the music industry.
