World première for Mountain movie
Nicole Kidman
Kidman is tipped for another Oscar nomination
The world première of Cold Mountain, which stars Nicole Kidman, Jude Law and Renee Zellweger, took place in Hollywood on Sunday night.

All three stars attended the screening, with other guests including actor Adrien Brody and singer Ricky Martin.

Cold Mountain, which has been tipped for Oscar success, is a civil-war era drama starring Law as a wounded soldier heading home to his sweetheart.

It is directed by Anthony Minghella, best known for The English Patient.

All three lead actors - Kidman, Law and Zellweger - are expected to land Oscar nominations for their performances in the movie, which is based on the book by Charles Frazier.

The cast spent 10 months filming in remote regions of Romania.

Blissful time

Speaking about the experience, Law said: "You know what, it was blissful for two reasons. One it because it allowed us to kind of enclose ourselves in a bubble and just make the film.

"And for another reason there were absolutely no distractions of our out of life. It was like a lesson in what we don't need anymore.

"The faxes didn't work a lot of times, the phones didn't work, you wouldn't sit in front of the TV, you'd go out for walks, you'd play in the fields, you'd climb trees, you'd pick flowers - it was a really blissful time".

Minghella admitted there were difficulties in translating the epic book on to the big screen.

"I called Charles Frazier who wrote the book and I said you know if you're looking for the least qualified person - I'm him. I don't know anything about the civil war, I haven't been to North Carolina, I hate being cold, I hate mountains but I love your book," he said.
