Ronnie Corbett, 69, and Ronnie Barker, 70, split when Barker left showbusiness to run an antiques shop 11 years ago. They will get together to record a special edition of The Two Ronnies, which ran through most of the 1970s and 1980s, as part of a Two Ronnies evening in July. "We're still working on the details, but there'll be a lot of new material alongside features from the old shows," said a BBC spokeswoman.
Oldman's million-dollar Jesus TV deal British actor Gary Oldman has been cast as Pontius Pilate in a forthcoming American TV mini-series, Jesus. He's reported to be netting $1m for his role as the Roman governor of Judea who ignored his personal misgivings to order the crucifixion of Jesus. The series is scheduled to begin shooting in Morocco on May 10. The 41-year-old's film credits include Bram Stoker's Dracula and Lost in Space.
Donald Sutherland suffering from stage fright Movie star Donald Sutherland is preparing to take to the American stage again after nearly 20 years and admits he's terrified. The actor, whose film credits include M*A*S*H, Klute and Casanova, is opening in Los Angeles next month in the psychological thriller Enigma Variations. "I haven't been on the stage for 20 years and I'm terrified, but it's not an uninteresting terror," said the 63-year-old. "I've made 101 films and I throw up at the beginning of every one." Playboy bunnies join rally Playboy Bunnies will join stars Billy Zane and Beverly Hills 90210 star Jason Priestley, as contenders in a five day, London to Italy car rally. Other participants in the Gumball 3000 will be top supermodels and members of pop-rock band Jamiroquai. Over one hundred entrants will depart from London on 30 April and will arrive in San Marino, Italy for the weekend of the Grand Prix. Prince Albert of Monaco and OO7 star Pierce Brosnan are expected to attend the after-rally party.
Concert threat to London's parks A series of large-scale summer concerts planned for London's royal parks will cause "incalculable damage", according to a study by park supporters. This summer's 16 open-air concerts by stars such as Cliff Richard and Chris de Burgh, threaten to "destroy the lush habitats and shatter the tranquillity" of the parks, says the report. But the Royal Parks' Agency pledged that concert organisers would pay for any damage and said the concerts would raise up to £1m in much-needed revenue. "Ministers expect us to generate and increase income and the concerts are one way of doing this", said a spokesman for the Agency.
MGM Chairman expected to resign Frank Mancuso, chairman of the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer film studios, is expected to resign in favour of Alex Yemenidjian, president of casino giant MGM Grand Inc., according to industry sources. Mancuso's resignation would come at a time when the California studio is searching for new mergers and distribution deals, in an effort to overcome a run of recent box office flops. Yemenidjian, a friend of billionaire Kirk Kerkorian, who controls both firms, already sits on the film studio's board. Also leaving MGM would be vice-chairman Robert Pisano, who is expected to be replaced by Universal Studios president Chris McGurk.
Baby daughter for Duchovny and Leoni X-Files star David Duchovny and his actress wife Tea Leoni have had their first child, a daughter. Deep Impact star Leoni and the baby, who has not yet been named, are both said to be "happy and healthy". Duchovny says parenthood is the biggest challenge he has had to face. "Relaxing into fatherhood is the toughest thing," he says. "Overcoming fear about keeping your child safe and living with constant anxiety."
Star Wars actor is stunned by queues British actor Anthony Daniels, who plays C3PO in the Star Wars films, says he is stunned to see fans queuing for weeks to see the new premiere. "Obsession with anything is just crazy," he said, on hearing that some fans have been queuing for three weeks, with the opening still weeks away. But the actor says there is something "special" about Star Wars fans he's met. "Most of them keep their feet on the ground," he says. Mase quits hip hop 'to do God's work' Hip hop star Mase has stunned fans with the announcement that he is quitting music "to do God's work". The 21-year-old says he feels that "my work as a rapper is done. I'm not really sure what I'm going to do". He adds that he never planned to be a 30-year-old rapper. "It just so happens that I'm pursuing God, and that's shocking for some people, but whatever I did came from my heart at the time." |
