Pop star Britney Spears has pulled out of appearing at Thursday's MTV Awards ceremony in Edinburgh.
Spears has been promoting her single
The singer was due to present an award, but has cancelled due to "ill health", the show's organisers have confirmed.
MTV Europe's Harriet Brand said: "She was in Paris, she became extremely ill then and was actually checked into the hospital there for a night or two.
"And it was after being released from there that her label felt they didn't want to take the risk with her health. And so they flew her back over the weekend."
Spears' comeback single featuring Madonna, called Me Against The Music, is due to be released on 10 November.
Her album In the Zone, due out the following week, is thought to be a make-or-break release for the star, who has recently suffered bad press and a fall in record sales.
She had been in the UK promoting the single with TV appearances on Richard and Judy and Graham Norton's chat show.
An MTV spokeswoman said: "Britney was due to present an award as opposed to perform but has pulled out due to ill health.
