Sticky song named top TV ad track
Maureen Tucker and Lou Reed of The Velvet Underground
The song was not officially released until 12 years after the band split
The Velvet Underground's track I'm Sticking with You, used in a Hyundai TV advert, has won an award for the best use of a song in a commercial.

The tune picked up the prize for best pop song at the first Music in Advertising Awards on Thursday.

The award for best classical tune in an advert went to Handel's Sarabande, the soundtrack to a Levi's commercial that saw a couple running through walls.

The awards were handed out by the Music Publishers Association in Glasgow.

I'm Sticking with You, a duet between singer Lou Reed and drummer Maureen Tucker, was originally an out-take from 1970's Loaded album - the band's last full album - and not officially released until 1985.

Barbara Zamoyska of Universal Music Publishing, who published the song, said: "Music is 50% of the overall effect of a commercial and these are perfect examples of music and visuals working together."

Composer Peter Lawlor, whose atmospheric Ice Night was used by Orange, won the prize for a specially commissioned work.

The Music Publishing Association's chief executive Sarah Faulder said the winners proved "just how valuable a role music plays in the advertising process".

The awards were a "celebration of the creativity that goes into placing the right music with the right ad," she said.

What do you think about the winners? Are they the best songs used in TV adverts over the last year? Or do you have different favourites?

BBC News Online users sent in their views.

Adverts rip off films too much. No coincidence that The Velvet Underground track cropped up on this advert at roughly the same time that press review copies of the Morvern Callar soundtrack were doing the rounds. Until then this piece of music had had a v low profile indeed...

Peugeot 206 ad and "Fly Away" by Lenny Kravitz. A cool classic.

For my money, the best ad music ever written is the 1970s R White's lemonade music, sung by the guy who was allegedly Elvis Costello's dad. Someone out there needs to cover this classic piece of glam-stomping product placement!

Underworld's 'Phat Planet' from the landmark Guinness 'surfers' advert from a few years back. Simple, but very effective indeed.

The Velvet Underground were undoubtedly an influential group, however their song I'm Sticking with You used in the car ad is without doubt the most nauseatingly dreadful dirge of all time, my teeth bled every time that ad aired.

Absolute nonsense and soft in the head, these judges must be to have picked that one (as no doubtly as 'popular' as it is). Winners (if any) should have been the brilliantly enigmatic Röyksopp's 'So Easy' for T-Mobile (Baby Image) and/or Aqualung's effortless charismatic 'Strange And Beautiful' (I'll Put A Spell On You) for VW Beetle.

Do you remember the advert for "Limara" perfume, it featured an animated story, a reverse of the sleeping beauty theme and a slightly adjusted song the recorded version has the hook line "remember my name..remember (insert Limara on the advert)it was a good rock ballad, I cannot remember who sung it!
Paul Evans,

I don't believe that horrid song won anything. I hate that song so badly that every time it came on, I turned the volume down. That song is the worst piece of music I've ever heard and that's including the rubbish played on the radio these days! There were other, much better songs out there that would have better illustrated the awards' point than that annoying song.

I like the song off the Hyndai ad - But my favourite is Royksopp's So Easy from the T-Mobile ad, that advert got me into their music and I'm grateful.

Sorry - but the 'shake and vac' song has to be the best music in an advert for me!
