Foster slips up in Malaysia

Jodie Foster plays Anna Leonowens in the remake of the 1950s epic

Actress Jodie Foster was treated at a Malaysian hospital for an ankle injury after slipping on the set of the remake of The King And I, Anna and The King.

The Oscar-winning actress was not seriously hurt but will be out of action for a couple of days.

"It's probably a little bruised but she's fine" said a spokesperson for the film. "She just slipped and fell."

But the injury is not expected to delay filming of the $60m Hollywood blockbuster, which is scheduled to move from Langkawi to Perak state next week.

"She needs a couple of days rest and then we'll be back shooting", added the spokesperson.

Production banned by Thailand

Foster plays Anna Leonowens in the remake of the 1950s classic. She stars alongside Hong Kong action hero Chow Yun Fat, who plays King Mongkhut.

Anna and The King follows the experiences of teacher Anna Leonowens, a tutor to the King of Siam's children in the 19th Century.

The remake is said to offer a more true-to-life account of events than the original Hollywood epic which starred Yul Brynner and Deborah Kerr.

Production is taking place in Malaysia because Thailand - which banned the original film because it claimed it was historically inaccurate - rejected the script for the remake, despite revisions by filmmakers Twentieth Century Fox.

The Thai film board said the revised script still contained inaccuracies which were insulting to the Thai monarchy and barred Hollywood from shooting the remake in the country.
