Harry Potter author JK Rowling has won a Spanish award for promoting world harmony through her books.
JK Rowling's books promote peace, judges say
Rowling beat 37 other nominees to wion the Prince of Asturias Award for Concord, which is worth £35,200.
It is given to someone who has helped "the struggle against injustice, poverty, disease or ignorance, to opening new horizons of knowledge".
The judges said Rowling's five books promote "ideas and skills that foster understanding amongst mankind".
Last year the prize was awarded to conductor Daniel Baremboim and author Edward Said for their work in the Middle East.
Other winners have included physicist Stephen Hawking and violinist Yehudi Menuhin.
