Holby City actor George Calil has said he is "absolutely devastated" after his girlfriend and co-star Laura Sadler was critically injured after falling from a balcony at his London flat.
Laura Sadler is known to viewers as nurse Sandy Harper
Ms Sadler, 22, who plays nurse Sandy Harper in the BBC drama, remains in a critical condition after the 40ft fall from the flat in Holland Park, west London, in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Mr Calil, 30, was arrested and questioned about the incident, and is on bail pending further inquiries.
He said in a statement: "I am absolutely devastated about what has happened to my girlfriend Laura Sadler. She is the love of my life. I am so incredibly upset over this - I just cannot believe what has happened.
"I have co-operated with the police fully in their investigation, which
continues. For this reason, I cannot at the moment talk specifically about the events of Sunday morning."
George Calil: Praying for a "speedy recovery"
The actor, who plays drug addict Sean Hunt in the programme, continued: "I hope everyone will join with me in praying for Laura's speedy recovery.
"My thoughts are with her whole family, particularly her mother, at this very upsetting time."
Mal Young, the BBC's controller of drama series, said Ms Sadler remained in a critical condition at Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith, west London.
"Laura's condition remains critical and unchanged from yesterday. Medical staff are doing all they can," he said.
"The family are grateful for everyone's good wishes and support."
Ms Sadler's family were at her bedside and her agent Michele Milburn requested they be given "space and privacy".
The house is in Holland Park, west London
The actress fell from a rear second floor balcony into a basement stairwell, and was found at approximately 0630 BST on Sunday morning.
A spokesman for Mr Calil described the couple as "very much in love" and said they were planning to go on holiday to Greece this summer.
He said: "He is absolutely in pieces about it. He just wants to be by her bedside, just for a minute. But he is not able to go back to the hospital because the family, understandably, want to be with her at the moment."
Holby City, a spin-off from hospital drama Casualty, is watched by millions of people every week.
Ms Sadler first appeared on television in the children's series Grange Hill.
She has also appeared in a television version of Jane Eyre, Inspector Morse, Intimate Relations, the Ruth Rendell Mysteries and Belfry Witches.
Her Holby City co-star Art Malik spoke of his shock at the news during a GMTV interview to promote his debut on the programme on Tuesday.
He said: "I'm sure myself and every member of the cast and crew is praying for her, and my thoughts go out to her and her family."
