Knowles album brought forward

The release date of Beyonce Knowles' debut solo album has been brought forward because of record company concerns over internet piracy.

Columbia Records decided to make the Destiny's Child star's album Dangerously In Love available on 24 June rather than 8 July, as originally planned.

Columbia president Will Botwin said the company was "concerned with the threat of the album getting leaked".

But he said they were also following public and radio station demand.

"We're really just responding to the market," Mr Botwin said.

"We went with the intention of putting out the album on 8 July... the way radio - at all formats - has jumped all over this thing changed that.

"We were also concerned with the threat of the album getting leaked to the internet."

Knowles' first single from the album, Crazy In Love, has reached number seven in the Billboard Hot 100 in the US.

It has also made number five in the US Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Singles & Tracks chart.

Going solo

Knowles is best known as one third of the hit girl group Destiny's Child.

The trio are global super stars and are used to being at the top of the charts.

They announced in late 2001 that they were taking a break from recording as a group so each member could pursue solo projects.

Michelle Williams and Kelly Rowland released their solo debuts in 2002.

Both albums did well but Knowles' release is expected to do much better.

Knowles' solo career is supported by her endorsement deal with Pepsi.

The company is featuring Knowles and her music in its recent ad campaign.

Sony has also teamed up with Columbia to offer a 45-second videoclip on all Sony Vaio computers.

Knowles has also made a name for herself in Hollywood, co-starring in the Austin Powers movie Goldmember.
