Actor Robbie Coltrane has separated from his wife Rhona Gemmell.
Coltrane has been with Ms Gemmell since 1988
Coltrane, 53, who plays Hagrid in the Harry Potter movies, had been with Ms Gemmell, 34, since 1988.
They have two children, aged 10 and five.
A spokeswoman for the actor said on Monday the separation was "amicable".
"There is no one else involved. The couple wish to be left alone for the sake of the children," she added.
Ms Gemmell is a sculptor and met Coltrane in 1988 when she was a student.
The couple had their first child, Spencer, four years later. The second child, Alice, followed and the couple married in 1999.
Coltrane's role in the Harry Potter movies has shot him to global stardom. He plays the friendly giant Hagrid.
But his career has been on the up and up since he became a household name in as the TV cop series Cracker in the mid 1990s.
He played a heavy-drinking, gambling but lovable, forensic psychologist helping detectives solve difficult cases.
Coltrane has also featured in the James Bond movies with Pierce Brosnan.
Most recently, he returned to TV in the ITV mini-series The Planman.
