Knife thrower draws blood on TV
Fern Britton
Host Britton called for the injured woman to be taken off set
Viewers watched in horror as a knife thrower missed his aim and cut his assistant's head live on ITV1's This Morning programme.

Circus performer Jayde Hanson, 23, was demonstrating his skills when one of his knives hit his assistant and girlfriend, 22-year-old Yana Rodianova.

As she clutched the side of her head, the show's presenter Fern Britton shouted: "Oh my God, there is blood, quick - get her off."

A This Morning spokeswoman said the wound was only "a nick" and that Ms Rodianova was "absolutely fine".

"You don't really expect that kind of thing from a world record-holder," she said.

More than a million viewers had been watching Thursday's episode of the daytime show, made by Granada.

Mr Hanson, part of the Cottle and Austen Circus, was showing how many knives he could hurl at his partner in 60 seconds.

He had been trying to emulate his world record-breaking stunt performed on National Circus Day of 120 knives thrown in two minutes.

"He felt confident as he has been throwing his mother's kitchen knives since the age of 10," This Morning's website reported.

Mr Hanson, the son of an elephant tamer and trapeze artist, is advertising for a new assistant.

Ms Rodianova, who bears two scars from previously misdirected throws, says she wants to concentrate on her hula hoop act.

Mr Hanson's previous assistant reportedly left the job after being hit in the foot - her third injury from a wayward knife.

Mr Hanson said recently: "In 11 years of performing, I've only hit my assistant on five occasions."
