Rowling has been married before
Harry Potter author JK Rowling and her husband, Dr Neil Murray, are celebrating the arrival of their first child.

The millionaire writer gave birth to a boy in Edinburgh's Royal Infirmary on Sunday and mother and baby have now left the hospital.

The writer has a nine-year-old daughter, Jessica, from a previous marriage.

Rowling married Dr Murray in a secret Boxing Day ceremony in 2001 at the writer's home in Perthshire, Scotland.

Rowling's publicist Nicky Stonehill said: "Both mother and baby are doing well."

A spokeswoman for the Royal Infirmary said: "We are delighted to be able to confirm that she gave birth to a son at the Simpson Centre for Reproductive Health on Sunday."

Rowling has become an international celebrity thanks to the global popularity of her Harry Potter books.

A fifth novel, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, is due to be released world-wide in June.

Two films of the first two Potter novels have been released, grossing more than $1.7bn (1.08bn) world-wide.
