New Osbournes series is US hit
Ozzy with wife Sharon Osbourne
Ozzy and Sharon Osbourne have become huge TV stars
The first episode of the second series of reality series The Osbournes has attracted more than six million viewers in the US.

The series follows the fortunes of Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne and his family, wife Sharon and teenage children Kelly and Jack.

The show became a huge hit when the first series was shown on MTV last year.

The first episode was shown on Tuesday in the US and its 6.6m figure was up by 84% compared with the first episode of the first season.

"The Osbournes' juggernaut shows little signs of slowing down," MTV programming president Brian Graden said in a statement.

The first series of the show became the highest-rating programme in the channel's 21-year history.

It is currently being shown on Channel 4 in the UK.

In the second series, Sharon Osbourne, Ozzy's wife and manager, must deal with being diagnosed with colon cancer.

The crew have been given access to her during her treatment, which she is currently undergoing.

Staged

The episode begins with Sharon Osbourne prophetically saying: "Everything is really great for us, that I think something's going to come and like, you know, knock us on the chin."

Daughter Kelly is also seen rehearsing a cover of the Madonna song Papa Don't Preach for the MTV Movie Awards.

Meanwhile, Kelly and Jack Osbourne have said that key scenes in two early episodes of the programme were staged for dramatic effect.

"The most fake thing about that show was the family meeting, because that was an MTV idea," Kelly, 18, said.

Jack, 17, added another scene where Sharon calls in a pet therapist for one of her dogs was also an MTV idea.

But their father has denied any of the footage was pre-planned.

His spokesperson said: "Nothing is ever scripted or planned on The Osbournes. Ozzy and Sharon would not have done it unless it were all real."
