Presley regrets Cage marriage
Lisa Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage
The couple were seen together at the weekend
Lisa Marie Presley has spoken about the breakdown of her marriage to actor Nicolas Cage, saying their relationship was doomed from the start.

The couple announced on Tuesday that they were to divorce after less than four months of marriage, with Cage citing "irreconcilable differences".

The union had lasted only 107 days.

In a statement Presley, 34, said: "I'm sad about this but we shouldn't have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake."

Oscar winner Cage, 38, filed the divorce petition under his real name, Nicolas Coppola, at Los Angeles Superior Court.

In a statement he refused to elaborate on the breakdown, saying only: "I did not talk about the marriage and I am not going to talk about the divorce."

The couple began dating in April 2001, but split up in February of this year before being reconciled.

Their relationship was known to be stormy, and newspapers reported blazing arguments between the pair a few weeks ago.

Vows

They were seen in public on Saturday at a screening of Cage's new film Adaptation in Los Angeles.

Cage married Elvis Presley's only child on 10 August, reciting wedding vows in a secret ceremony in Hawaii.

Presley was previously married to musician Danny Keough, with whom she had two children, and pop superstar Michael Jackson.

Cage divorced actress Patricia Arquette in 2001. He has a son from a previous relationship with model Kristina Fulton.

He is best known for his roles in the films Raising Arizona, Face/Off, Captain Corelli's Mandolin and Leaving Las Vegas, for which he won a best actor Oscar in 1996.

He is a big Elvis fan and recorded the Presley hit Love Me Tender for the soundtrack of the 1990 film Wild At Heart.

He impersonated Elvis in a scene from the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas and his marriage to Lisa Marie took place on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death.
