Nimmo out of intensive care

Derek Nimmo: Out of intensive care

The actor Derek Nimmo has recovered consciousness and been moved out of intensive care after his fall at home more than a month ago.

A spokeswoman for Mr Nimmo said: "The doctors are very pleased with his progress."

The actor, 68, has been moved on to a ward at London's Chelsea and Westminster Hospital but he is still suffering from a chest infection and cannot speak.

Mr Nimmo was badly injured when he fell down the stairs at his home in Kensington, west London, on 2 December.

He underwent emergency surgery to remove a blood clot from his brain the following day.

Mr Nimmo overcame a stutter to launch a comic acting career in the 1960s.

He is a popular after-dinner speaker and a regular panellist on the BBC Radio 4 show, Just A Minute.
