Saturday marks the 40th anniversary of James Bond on the big screen.
Four decades after Dr No first captivated audiences, 007 is about to return in the 20th film, Die Another Day, due to be released next month.
Secret Agent 007 has been synonymous with suave sophistication, guns, gadgets and girls
Ian Fleming's hero made his movie debut in 1962 in Dr No
There have been five Bonds - Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton and Pierce Brosnan
Australian actor George Lazenby starred in only one of the Bond films
Ian Fleming said of his plots: 'They go wildly beyond probable - not, I think, beyond the possible.'
GoldenEye was the first Bond film in six years when it was screened in 1995
Brosnan has been credited with maintaining the popularity of the secret agent
The 20th film in the series, Die Another Day, is scheduled to debut nationwide on 22 November
