Awards success for EastEnders
Bill Tarmey and Liz Dawn
Honoured: Jack and Vera have entertained for 20 years
EastEnders' on screen husband and wife Trevor and Little Mo have triumphed at an awards ceremony dedicated to soap operas.

Kacey Ainsworth, who plays Little Mo, and Alex Ferns, who stars as the bullying Trevor, collected the best male actor and actress award at the Inside Soap Awards held in London.

EastEnders also won best soap and best storyline for the gripping scenes of Zoe Slater discovering Kat is not her sister but is in fact her mother.

Ferns, who has filmed his last scenes as Trevor, lost out in the best "bad boy" category to Coronation Street's very own serial killer Richard Hillman, played by Brian Capron.

At the recent TV Quick Awards, the BBC's EastEnders swept the board winning every major award, but Coronation Street fought back at the Inside Soap event, picking up five awards in total.

The show's interfering Norris Cole, played by Malcolm Hebden, was once again voted soap's funniest character.

Suranne Jones won an award for her portrayal of the scheming Karen McDonald.

And an outstanding achievement award was handed to Bill Tarmey and Elizabeth Dawn for their work playing Jack and Vera Duckworth for more than 20 years.

The best newcomer award was won by Emmerdale's Seamus Gubbins, who plays the shady Ray Mullan in the rural soap.

The sexiest male and female awards were awarded to EastEnders' Jack Ryder and Jessie Wallace, who star as Jamie Mitchell and Kat Slater.

Coronation Street's Tracy Shaw, the winner of last year's sexiest female award, walked away with best dressed soap star.

Known for the daring outfits she wears at various showbiz bashes, Shaw announced that she is set to quit the soap after seven years playing hairdresser Maxine.

Channel 4 soap Brookside did not go home empty-handed as Raymond Quinn collected the best young actor gong for his role as the bullied Anthony Murray to add to the best dramatic performance award he won earlier in the year at the British Soap Awards.

The best drama award went to ITV's long running police show The Bill.
