Robbie: 'Heroin is evil'

Robbie: Speaks out against drugs

The pop star Robbie Williams has spoken out against taking heroin after admitting he once snorted the drug.

The 24-year-old singer said he had taken heroin just once about 18 months ago when his dealer had been unable to supply with him with his drug of choice.

"It was the worst experience of my life and I can say, hand on heart, that I will never do it again. Heroin is evil - nobody should go near it. It was an appalling thing to do," Robbie told The Sun newspaper.

The 24-year-old former Take That star has already confessed he was formerly hooked on cocaine. He is currently engaged to All Saint singer Nicole Appleton.

His comments were welcomed by the drugs tsar Keith Hellawell, who invited him to take part an active part in anti-drug campaigns.

"I think that any help we can get in influencing and telling how it is to young people, especially through the mouths of somebody so talented, is tremendous. I would be very pleased if he would get in touch," said Mr Hellawell, the UK Drugs Co-ordinator, and special adviser to the prime minister.

He believed Robbie would be an effective tool in the anti-drugs campaign targeting children,

"The power and influence that he has over people because of his talent is enormous," said Mr Hellawell.

"It's so good for me when people will be honest and come out and explain about how they have experienced it and how bad it was for them."
