Millionaire? major in court
An Army major has appeared in court charged with dishonestly trying to win £1m on TV show Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?.

Major Charles Ingram, 39, his wife Diana, 38, both of Easterton, Wiltshire, and college lecturer Tecwen Whittock, 52, of Cardiff, appeared at Southwark Crown Court, London, charged with deception and conspiracy.

Judge Fingret bailed them to return to the same court on 23 October for a plea and directions hearing.

The Ingrams were charged in July after Major Ingram's winning appearance on the show in September 2001.

The £1m prize was withheld pending the investigation, but Major Ingram has launched a civil action against the programme's makers to recover the money.

Pop princess Britney Spears has been voted the worst-dressed celebrity in a new magazine poll.

The result may be seen as further evidence that she is losing her touch after a spell in which she has been booed by fans on several occasions.

Madonna was second in the Prima magazine survey, followed by glamour model Jordan and Planet Of The Apes star Helena Bonham-Carter.

Victoria Beckham was named best-dressed celebrity, despite being voted worst-dressed star in the same poll in 2000 and 2001.

Model Nell McAndrew is favourite to win, at 3/1, followed by former boxer Nigel Benn and actor Darren Day, both at 5/1.

The Last Samurai is expected to be an epic war movie about a US soldier who fights the samurai but is captured and learns their code of honour.

"And no I won't do any frickin' 'moderne' American 20th century nonsense."

UK viewers pick Simpsons family values

Cartoon favourites The Simpsons have beaten Del Boy and Rodney to be voted the top TV family by UK viewers.

The Simpsons beat the Trotters, from Only Fools and Horses, with the layabout Royles - of The Royle Family fame - in third place.

The Cranes, from US sitcom Frasier, were fourth, ahead of The Waltons and EastEnders' Slater clan.

But psychologist Dr Cynthia McVey said: "In many ways, the Simpsons are a very poor example of family life - discipline, for example, never seems to happen."
