Injured Priestley out of hospital
Jason Priestley
Priestley is expected to make a full recovery
Actor Jason Priestley has left hospital less than a fortnight after suffering serious injuries, including a fractured spine, when his racing car hit a wall.

The accident at the Kentucky Speedway left him needing a series of operations, with the former Beverly Hills 90210 star spending a week in intensive care.

Priestley will now continue his recovery in a physical rehabilitation centre, Vancouver radio station CKWX reported.

Priestley after the crash
Priestley was treated by racing injury specialists
Doctors are understood to believe the star will make a full recovery after surgery on his nose, eyes, back and feet.

The actor is a member of the Kelley Racing team and was practising for the final of the Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series when he crashed.

During a practice session, it is thought Priestley went over a section of track where absorbent material "oil dry" had been laid down after another car leaked fluid.

While other cars were able to avoid it, Priestley apparently did not know the slick substance was on the track and ran right through it.

His Dallara/Infiniti hit the outside wall in the second turn, heavily damaging it, then veered across the course and hit an inside retaining wall.

After being taken to accident and emergency at a Kentucky hospital, Priestley was moved to an Indianapolis hospital.

The Indianapolis centre is known for having treated several other racing drivers.

Other injuries

In addition to fractures in his ninth thoracic vertebra and in both feet, Priestley suffered a contusion around his left eye.

He also had lacerations on the bridge of his nose, left cheek and neck.

Priestley became a worldwide star as Brandon Walsh in US teen drama series Beverly Hills 90210 between 1990 and 1998.

He also starred in a critically acclaimed production of the hit Broadway play Side Man on London's West End stage.

His film credits include Love and Death on Long Island, Tombstone and Eye of the Beholder.
