Big Brother's Kate to become DJ
Davina McCall and Kate Lawler after the Big Brother finale
Kate (right) has reportedly signed with a talent agency
Kate Lawler is to fill in for Capital radio host Steve Penk to cover his week's holiday, in her first job since winning 70,000 in reality TV show Big Brother.

Her new role follows fellow contestant Alex Sibley's deal to star in 1m bleach ads.

Kate, a Madonna fan, was asked to fill in for Penk because she is "young, witty, intelligent and up for it", according to Capital FM programme controller Ric Blaxill.

The show will be broadcast on Capital FM's commercial stations across the country, including BRMB in Birmingham, Invicta in Kent and Red Dragon in south Wales as well as Capital FM in London.

Kate will host a three-hour show between 2200 and 0100 for five nights from Sunday, 1 September.

"I think she'll be a big hit with the listeners," Mr Blaxill said. "The late-night slot will be perfect for Kate's energetic personality too."

Kate described the job as "wicked", and said she never thought she would be a radio DJ.

"I grew up listening to Capital, it's weird to think in a couple of weeks I'm going to be broadcasting on it," she said.

It has been reported that Kate's career is being guided by one of the UK's leading talent agencies, PFD, which also represents Kate Winslet, Ewan McGregor and Big Brother 2 winner Brian Dowling.

There had been rumours that Kate would land a role in EastEnders, although these were later denied by the BBC.
