Austin Powers star Verne Troyer has been chosen as Grand Marshal of an annual Oktoberfest event, which will take place in the American city of Cincinnati next month.

The 32-inch-tall actor, who has played Dr Evil clone Mini-Me in two of the spoof spy films, will lead the world's largest "chicken dance" and kazoo band at Oktoberfest Zinzinnati on 22 September.

The two-day event is the largest Oktoberfest celebration in the US, and usually draws a crowd of around half a million people.

Organisers are currently planning a special stage for Troyer to perform the dance, while up to 20,000 crowd members will be given free kazoos enabling them to play along with the parade.

"This movie is so right now. I think that makes him our biggest personality ever for this event," said an Oktoberfest spokesperson.

Others who have led the parade in the past include funnyman Weird Al Yankovic, Monkees singer Davy Jones and Prince Luitpold Von Bayern, Crown Prince Of Bavaria.

The Chicken Dance Song was composed by Werner Thomas in the 1970s in Davos, Switzerland.

Troyer: Has appeared in a string of high-profile films

Originally entitled Der Entertanz - The Duck Song, it was soon renamed The Chicken Dance, and has been recorded on numerous occasions.

It has become a focal point of Cincinnati's Oktoberfest celebrations, which begin this year on 20 September.

Troyer, 33, shot to fame after debuting as Mini-Me in 1999's Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me.

He can currently be seen at cinemas reprising the role in the latest Austin Powers hit Goldmember.

He has also appeared in a string of hit films including Men In Black, The Grinch, Mighty Joe Young and Harry Potter And The Philosopher's Stone.
