Heathen Chemistry: Your views
Noel and Liam Gallagher
The band have been together for 10 years
Oasis have had their ups and downs but the band have survived the split rumours, marriage breakdowns and boy band chart saturation to return with a fifth album, Heathen Chemistry.

The album includes recent chart hits The Hindu Times and Stop Crying Your Heart Out.

"Heathen Chemistry is a predictable formula of lad rock and ballads for big boys - with an element of middle-road softening pulling them away from their brash roots," says BBC News Online's Michael Osborn.

But what do you think?

Is it their best yet? Have they moved on musically or not?

Have your say

I think this is the best stuff Oasis have done in ages. They have definitely matured, but still maintain the Oasis sound. There is real quality throughout. Songbird, in my opinion the best track, was written by Liam. This goes to show that Oasis are growing as a band. Many of the people who jumped on the Oasis bandwagon in the mid-nineties have now jumped off again. That's their loss, not mine.
chris Davies, UK

As rubbish as they always were. I think I remember two tunes that ever had something good, but most of it is just Liam whining into a mic. Not worth buying.
Ch, Ireland

Great album, proving they are still one of the best bands around, Born On A Different Cloud shows Liam's writing abilities. Well done!
Syed, UK

Oasis are back to their best, Noel defies gravity with his uplifting songs!
Adam Cushion, UK

Superb, their best since Definitely Maybe and That's the Story

Stefan Holliday, England
Oasis deliver their best offering since What's the Story..... That's not saying much though. A couple of golden nuggets are hidden amongst the fillers. Liam's Songbird and Born on a Different Cloud challenge Noel's "getting older" for monicker of best track. Elsewhere, Little by Little and Force of Nature remind you of how badly the wheels have fallen off the band. For everything else on the album, you'll be better off listening to your Beatles albums. Stuck in a time warp dating back to 1966, what you see is what you get with Oasis. This lacks invention. God, what I would give to hear that Noel had discovered funk.......
Lee, England

Superb, their best since Definitely Maybe and That's the Story. Keep it up boyz!!!
Stefan Holliday, England

Heathen Chemistry is a great listen. Upbeat, varied, parts rocky, parts sentimental and plenty of fantastic melodies. They may be mellowing out - they're not rebellious working class kids any more - but they still have that unique quality of being able to lift you when you're down. They're back.
Chris Matthews, Oxford

Powerful melodic pop, back to what they do best!
Mark Ledger, England

I think as an album taken at face value it is okay, anyone looking for something refreshing and new should not look towards Oasis

PJS, England
I would rather listen to the rubbish polluting the charts, than this awful, awful album. It was bad enough when they ripped off other peoples' tunes. Now it seems they are content to simply re-hash their own back catalogue. It is time for them to call it a day!
Conal Presho, England

With the release of the new album the inflated Oasis head has reduced in size and Heathen Chemistry has moved on from the albums of the 90s. The Liam composed tracks to my amazement are the most middle of the road. Definately an album to be heard live and I can't wait!
Murray Hetherington, UK

Okay, so it isn't their greatest album but who expected it to be? I never expect them to reach the heights of the first two albums ever again. I think as an album taken at face value it is okay, anyone looking for something refreshing and new should not look towards Oasis. They may not be Radiohead or the Beatles but some of the tracks on the album are really good little tunes, Songbird in particular.

One thing that disappoints me slightly are the tracks Noel has written and sang himself, they really do just plod along. It may be fashionable to be just another bandwagon jumping Oasis hating critic but Oasis are still in my top three favourite bands of all time (note I did not say top three greatest bands of all time).
PJS, England

One of their best albums so far. Oasis are getting back to their best. Back to the hey days of Morning Glory. Well done Oasis.
Che, Ireland/Spain

To those who say it's predictable, well, it may be but that's the sort of music we like Oasis for and why not give us more of the same? If it ain't broke......

Ollie J, UK
Pathetic - a once so so band have fallen even further. Even Chris Rea out-rocks this lot. A waste of money and a waste of my time. At least I kept the receipt.

Boring people, boring album, boring band. Dull.
Adam, UK

It is quality, OK, a lot of people are going to whinge "It sounds like the Beatles", well, they aren't making records anymore so who cares if it sounds like them? Liam called his kid Lennon for goodness sake - he is a big fan. No one complains that most rock sounds like stuff from the 70s. At least Oasis have set their sights high and almost achieved their targets. At least they are songs from the heart. Anyway, the majority of the CD-buying public wouldn't know a decent album if it jumped up and bit them.
Tony, England

What a load of pap! The worst album they've ever produced without doubt - give it up boys!
Steve, UK

Oasis have produced a very good, polished album. It may not have the cutting edge that Definitely Maybe and What's the Story had but it's still excellent. To those who say it's predictable, well, it may be but that's the sort of music we like Oasis for and why not give us more of the same? If it ain't broke......
Ollie J, UK

The production on Heathen Chemistry is a lot more raw than the last two and now they have four good song writers in the band

Kevin Scott, UK
Whilst the album is undeniably good, I would not have been surprised to have heard it two, maybe three years ago. There is nothing new on the album and I am sorely disappointed by Oasis' claims that this would be their best album yet. Nothing new, no innovation, styles copied from bands right across the board, the list goes on. Anyone want my copy?
Tom B, UK

Shlock Rock. Self important mediocre mature rock. There's nothing new here. Oasis need to give it up or open their eyes. Sure they may be a bit more mature but they really shouldn't embarrass themselves. My dad would probably like this and he listens to Genesis.
NJM, UK

First album to put that long lost tingle down my spine that no other band has been able to match in many many years!!!!! Keep rocking lads!!!
Steve B, UK

A return to the sound that is Oasis. But where are the classics? The Gallagher brothers appear to be all sun-tans, dark shades and American white smiles - where's the depth and substance?
Eny, England

This is, in my opinion, by far the best album ever released by a band called Oasis in July 2002 and will remain so until at least August 2002.
Steve, London UK

Oasis seem to have finally realised that they are never going to change the world and decided to make an album for themselves and their fans (and there are a lot of them around). The production on Heathen Chemistry is a lot more raw than the last two and now they have four good song writers in the band, I can see them put out another 10 albums, some good, some poor. It never did U2 any harm did it? Back to their best - at last.
Kevin Scott, UK

Great tunes, great melodies. Who cares if they don't change?! I like them because they don't!

David Lee, USA
Not a bad album, just not that good really. The sooner Noel realises he can't sing the better. Hopefully it's better live, otherwise surely it is time to give up.
Chris R, UK

I always have an open mind when it comes to new albums, you know, never judge a book by its cover. However after one listen of the new album, I have to say I finally think it's time for Oasis to give it up. There is nothing on this album that even comes close to Wonderwall and Don't Look Back in Anger. This is not the sort of album I would listen to more than once. Come in Oasis, your time is up.

By the way, Noel, I have a spare copy of Fever if you're interested.....it's much better than your feeble attempt!
Marko, Netherlands

If you slag this one off, you haven't listened to it! The boys are BACK! Great tunes, great melodies. Who cares if they don't change?! I like them because they don't!
David Lee, USA

O dear...deja vu. These guys have definitely reached their use by date. Take 'em off..
Berg, Australia

I was expecting so much more, but the Oasis boys have most definitley lost the fire that they had in their earlier albums. It is an Oasis album equivalent of having a night in with a cup of cocoa, deciding what wallpaper to put up in the hall. Dull, dull, dull.
Edd Almond, UK

So far, Oasis have released two mind-bogglingly good albums and two mind-bogglingly boring ones. Heathen Chemistry fortunately tips the balance in favour of the former. Killer tunes played by a brilliant rock and roll band. What more do people want?
Sam, UK

I think they should do us all a favour and quit (they should have done it while they were still ahead)

Gary C, Scotland
Just another album, just another band ripping off the Beatles et al. But they do produce a nice sound.
Frank, New Zealand

I think that this album was always going to be criticised due to Oasis' long term absence from the charts. Taken from face value many bands would be very proud to come up with the poetic lyrics and smooth ballads that have made this album. Excellent work!
Andrew, UK

Obviously better than the last two but certainly not a great album. Average band produces average album - so what?!
Derrick Jameson, Iceland

What strikes me most about this dreadfully mediocre album is its title, coming right on the heels of the Bowie album Heathen, which is superior in every way. These guys can't even have an original title!
Sylvie, Canada

This is Oasis' third best album by far. Just to put things straight, I'm not expecting oasis to perhaps ever surpass the days of 95, 96 - you can't really better an album that is already the greatest British rock album of all time, that is impossible - at least for the time being. But what Oasis are maestros in, is producing solid, inspirational, inventive, rocking, adrenaline pumping, heartfelt, and sincere albums.

The wonderful summery tune that is Songbird, the mammoths that are Stop Crying Your Heart Out, The Hindu Times, Probably All In The Mind, the goovy sexy Better Man, the all out clean rock Hung In a Bad Place, the sentimental sweetners, Little By Little, She Is Love, the glam rock yet very good Forces of Nature.
Mikey, Maldives

The album is a total rehash of the earlier albums. I am very disappointed that Noel and Liam could treat all their fans this way. I am no longer an Oasis fan.
Jamie C, UK

I heard tracks from this album on Radio Scotland on my way home. This is one of the worst albums I have ever heard, and I've listened to a few bad ones in my time. It's like the Beatles done very badly, sounds like most of the other stuff they've done but worse, there is nothing original here. I think they should do us all a favour and quit (they should have done it while they were still ahead).
Gary C, Scotland

Up with Morning Glory, if not better, just another step in the right direction

Ian, Isle of Wight
Everyone's saying it's not Definitely Maybe, or it's not (What's The Story) Morning Glory? or it's not Standing on the Shoulder of Giants, but isn't that something to be glad about? It's Heathen Chemistry - a new band a new direction - the boys have done good in my opinion - eleven solid and polished tracks - a refreshing change in the charts which are constantly saturated by cheap manufactured pop.

Come on, at least these guys play their own instruments and don't mime their songs while performing stupid dance routines. Each song has meaning and underneath you can see the raw patented Gallagher talent shining through. Fair play lads. I'm left puzzled by the last track though, with the bonus instrumental after half an hour of silence. That's one of Robbie's tricks isn't it? Well I guess it's only appropriate on a track called Better Man!
Gaz P, UK

As terrible and dismal as ever. There are thousands of bands out there more worthy of recording.
Eileen Wallace, Spain

You tell me who has made a better contemporary album than this in the past couple of years? Muse, Ash, The Vines, Starsailor can all hide their heads in shame now the proper Oasis are back, good rockin tunes from a bunch a working class lads which you can associate yourself with easily.

Up with Morning Glory, if not better, just another step in the right direction, I get sick of people saying Beatles this, Lennon that, what are they supposed to do, write techno tracks??!!!!
Ian, Isle of Wight

The album is awful, with the exception of Hindu Times, which is vintage Oasis

Adam Wylie, UK
Look, I don't hear people grumbling that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club sound like T-Rex, or that The Strokes are the spawn of The Ramones. Get off the bandwagon, and judge it by the only Oasis criteria - will you be drunkenly singing along to the chorus beside the pub jukebox in six months time (like you did with the whole of the first two albums?) Judge it after your Christmas binge-drinking is complete...
Harkarn, England

Hindu Times hinted at a possible strong comeback, but sadly the rest of the album is let down, yet again, by some very mediocre writing. What happened to the energy, danger and excitement that Oasis used to have in abundance?
Alan, UK

Wicked! I love it! I think it's their best album yet. I've bought it today and listened to it a hundred times already!
Joe, England

Heathen Chemistry sounds like Status Quo at their worst! I cannot understand why anyone would think that this is a good album. I have supported Oasis since day one, bought all their singles and albums, and have today purchased Heathen Chemistry. The album is awful, with the exception of Hindu Times, which is vintage Oasis. Pure dull, pub-rock - this is breaking my heart!!
Adam Wylie, UK

Modern day Beatles sound, it's inoffensive enough but it's not their best album yet

Mat Bettinson, UK
Definitely their best album since their previous one. That was rubbish though.
Simon, UK

Absolutely rubbish. Taking subjectivity into account, why do people like Oasis? Listening to Liam G now practically unable to sing, wailing through this was terrible. Give it up, remember the good days, which were average at best and crawl back under the rock, for everyone's sake.
Ian, USA

Some good stuff here and some tat, but isn't the real point that it's not 1997 anymore and Oasis no longer reflect the mood of the times? Listen to the Streets for the sound of UK 2002...
Ian, UK

Modern day Beatles sound, it's inoffensive enough but it's not their best album yet. It's an addition to their work which we moved on from three years ago now. Other bands which have made the long haul have grown and developed their ideas further but Oasis seem to be clinging to the borrowed Beatles sounds and they're all the weaker for it.
Mat Bettinson, UK

This album is a masterpiece, like everything else Oasis. Anyone who has anything bad to say about it is obviously "being cool" as it is undeniably trendy to dislike Oasis. True to form, amazing sound and bodes well for the future. Oasis will truly Live Forever.
Altair G, Ireland

This is without doubt a diverse and truely brilliant album, go buy it!

Bobby, UK
I listened to Heathen Chemistry first time and thought "hmmm.. okay - not that good though". Gave it the occasional listen over the next month and slowly realised that it's a solid, solid album! Give it a chance and you'll realise that once you discard the average Hindu Times almost everything else either is classic or lives nearby!
Johnny Reilly, England

Judge the album after we listen shall we? I downloaded the album and was not impressed at first, but then each song just clicked, they are all brilliant, brilliant songs, they are not over long like many of the songs from the Be Here Now era, they have much more of a Definitely Maybe era (i.e. their best era) feel about them. This album is their second best after Definitely Maybe. Still the best band in the world without a doubt!
Jonathan Shaw, England

People might say it is not as good as the first two albums and it probably is not but perhaps people should really try to get their heads around how astronomical those albums were. If any of these new bands could put out an album like this than every single person would be singing their praises. I do think it is the best post-96 album that has been brought out by any band.

Also for once an Oasis album seems to be taking more than one direction, tracks like Hindu Times or Better Man may be reminiscent of the Rolling Stones, Stop Crying Your Heart out or Born On a Different Cloud have that Beatles flavour. All in the Mind or She Is Love certainly have a Stone Roses style to them while Songbird or Little By Little seem to share a style with that of Paul Weller leaving Hung in a Bad Place and Force of Nature to fill that real rock anthem criteria.

This is without doubt a diverse and truely brilliant album, go buy it!
Bobby, UK

Liam's songwriting has definitely improved, but this is a massive disappointment

JP, Scotland
The album seems so dated that I wonder why they bothered. It seems recycling of one old idea which briefly worked a few years ago.
Ed Karten, UK

Once again Oasis release an album saying that it is a "return to the form of the first one" which they have said after each of their last two studio efforts as well. I wonder if this album will suffer the same fate as the last ones where Noel slags it off in a couple of years time when he's recording the next. Oasis haven't moved on at all and are just churning out the same old formulaic tunes.

Liam's songwriting has definitely improved, but this is a massive disappointment. It doesn't even deliver a killer track which makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up like Gas Panic did on their last studio effort.

I really want to like this album, but I really think they should split up as it's a shame for me to see such a great band (evidence: the first two albums) bringing out such dull albums year after year.
JP, Scotland

Good stuff here. Noel's voice has improved so much on this record. Liam has definitely improved his song-writing abilities and the addition of non-Gallagher material is a nice change. It ain't What's the Story, but it's excellent.
Daniel, USA

Noel has written some of his best songs and his talent seems to grow everyday

Nicole, USA
A great rock and roll album from a great rock and roll band - no more, no less!! 11 strong tracks that I can't wait to witness live in September!
David Spibey, Cheshire, UK

I say bravo to Oasis for giving us another fine piece of work. I have liked all their albums so far but I must say that this is the best one by far. I like the different styles of music that they have included on this album. Noel has written some of his best songs and his talent seems to grow everyday. I hope to hear more albums from them in the future and I wish the lads all the luck in the world.
Nicole, United States

Derivative rubbish. A great rock'n'roll voice supported by entirely pedestrian tracks and dismal lyrics - not a hint of wit or originality in sight. They've got rich and totally lost their edge.
Nick, UK

A well worked and well put together album, people on here saying that it's bad are just Eminem fans who just don't get the concept of REAL music with GUITARS and REAL DRUMS and REAL SINGING, this album is going down as a classic.
Darren, England

It's not up to much, I had the misfortune to listen to it whilst at work. It's nothing groundbreaking, but in true media frenzy it'll get hyped out of proportion. If Oasis were a sportsman they'd be Tim Henman - boring and predictable. Not exactly rock 'n roll. Nice try lads but maybe crawl back under that stone now, or get a performance on Pebble Mill. Yawn...
Paul Beattie, Corby, UK

Same old rubbish. What bugs me is that this is the third dull album they've released on the trot

Ben Sutherland, England
Oh dear. There is no denying the power and grace of the first two albums, but since then things have certainly hit a rocky patch in the Gallagher boys' lives. Yes, there are a couple of decent tracks, but there's nothing to hit the spine like Live Forever or What's The Story.

My real fear is that this below par effort is going to mean yet more pathetic attacks on other artists in an attempt to get some interest in an otherwise uninteresting effort. Still with a story about "boring" Beatles and an attack upon Kylie's name in the papers, perhaps we've already seen this starting. It's sad really, a bit like the album.
Ben Christie, UK

Quality all the way. Well produced, well written and well thought out. You can't beat Oasis for pop rock, and this is the best they have come up with since What's The Story. COME ON!!!
Adam, UK

I love this album, though it is not as good as the first two. Surely the other comments are from the usual Oasis-haters. Maybe they should stick to Will Young and Gareth Gates??
James Smythe, England

Same old rubbish. What bugs me is that this is the third dull album they've released on the trot. So that's more bad albums than good then. Why do we waste our time talking about bland bands like Travis, Stereophonics, Oasis and (gulp) Ash when none of them have anything interesting to give us, musically or lyrically? So Liam's had The Magical Mystery Tour out, big deal! There's tonnes of interesting stuff out there, let's give them a few more column inches!
Ben Sutherland, England

This is so bland it makes manufactured pop look interesting

Ben H, England
Great album boys, your stuff gets better and better. All hardcore Oasis fans will love this and those doubters are in for a shock
Michelle Radcliffe, England

Trash, utter trash, just like the other albums. Shame Liam thinks Kylie (now there is a class act) is pointless, rather have her on in the background anyday than the dirge Oasis come out with. When will he learn he is not a substitute John Lennon..... check in for therapy Liam...
AJ, London, UK

Not bad at all, offers something new with a smiliar sound - still pleased though that I did not go out and buy it as it is not worth £13, but OK for about 11 minutes over the download site on the internet.
Simon, UK

The future of British rock? I think not! Basically a rehash of the last four albums. They have been recording now for longer than the Beatles and frankly havn't learned anything. In a chart that is overrun with talentless manufactured rubbish there is a yawning void waiting to be filled and unfortunately Oasis have missed the boat.
John O, UK

This is so bland it makes manufactured pop look interesting. They have fallen so far down the musical ladder that they are little more than parodies of their former selves.
Ben H, England

The rock boys are back! I am in love with this record after just two plays of it, and the lyrics and melodies are beautiful

Pedro Sanchez, Spain
Fantastic album from the brothers. What I don't understand is why critics spend so much time trying to knock them? Why ask for refreshing and new music? You're buying a brand and their talent, does anyone ask Ronaldo to score goals in a slightly new way? It's that ridiculous, their work is on obvious display and soars high above anything else this generation has to offer. Good luck to them and two fingers to the critics.
Ryan Wheeler, UK

Load of rubbish, it's about time this pub group band gave it in. Offers very little musically, and in terms of creativity.....forget it. They keep on creating dull tracks with no individual style what-so-ever. Goodness knows who buys this!
Phil, London

Absolutely the same stuff they have released four times. If they had one ounce of originality and were able to actually innovate their sound they may one day release something that sounds one cord different from Wonderwall. At least Blur remained mildly interesting and did different things.
John Fitzpatrick, UK

The rock boys are back! I am in love with this record after just two plays of it, and the lyrics and melodies are beautiful. From the upsurge "All of your stars, have faded away" in Stop Crying Your Heart Out to the rock of "Join me now in our collective..." in She is Love. I am already excited about my third listen!!
Pedro Sanchez, Spain

Definitely one of their top five albums!

Dave Roberts, UK
It's an absolutely fantastic album. Those who criticise for a lack of innovation, why do you only level this argument against them? The same applies for any guitar-based band, The Vines, The Hives, Sterephonics, Travis, etc. Too often people just give their opinions of the Gallagher brothers rather than pay attention to the great music.
Andrew , UK

Wonderful, roll on Sunday, Finsbury Park won't know what hit it.
David Hornsey, UK

Well... if you never liked Oasis forget about them. If you liked Oasis in the 90s this is an album that will make your mornings happier. because forget about loops, techno, programmings and that stuff... Who wanted Oasis like that? Who wanted the "Pop" record when we wanted All That You Can't Leave Behind? Because it's not WTSMG or Definitely Maybe but it is a sincere album. And that's all that I want. Bands that do sincere records... good songs well played... who cares if they seem the like the Beatles, Led Zeppelin or Britney Spears...
Darcy, Spain

Definitely one of their top five albums!
Dave Roberts, Milton Keynes, UK

Not as good as it could have been, but not half as bad as everyone is making out

Jon, UK
Once again, a poor effort. Oasis might have tried their best by roping in new members who can write songs and play instruments, but the sound is still the same.

Every album they release they proclaim is amazing, only to slag it off when it fares poorly.

Nowadays, Oasis are left to slagging off people to get a few column inches. I think it's jealousy that acts like Kylie are doing incredibly well, whilst Oasis have slipped into boring dad-rock.

Let's hope they finally get the message this time and realise it's time to give up.
Mike, Australia

Not as good as it could have been, but not half as bad as everyone is making out... except Force of Nature. Sorry Noel!
Jon, Birmingham, UK

Listened to it the first few times and i thought it was OK, nothing special. IT IS A GROWER!!!! The more you listen, the better it gets. Born on a Different Cloud is superb. It may not be the groundbreaking success of the first two, but those albums will go down in history, you can't expect it every time! Oasis changed the face of British music, they are the most important band of the last 20 years....and they've still got it!
James Street, England

The album sounds great, but what has happened to the writing.. where have the Supersonics, Live Forevers and Slide Aways gone..?
Barry Inglis, Scotland

A well produced and performed, heartfelt album. I just don't understand the vitriol of the Oasis-haters who ask why the Gallaghers don't give it up. They top the charts, sell nearly 100,000 tickets in a morning, soundtrack England's World Cup exit for the nation and, most importantly, bring a lot of joy to their fans. 'Nuff said.
Chris, England

Groundbreaking? No. Better than any of the "pop idol" pap doing the rounds at the moment? Definitely. A return to form? Yes. The band are clearly sticking to what they know and do best - clearly this isn't good enough for the hangers-on still looking for a second helping of What's the Story? - well I'm sorry, but the "next big thing" will be with you shortly to get your claws into.

For the masses of real fans, this is all we asked for - a no frills Oasis record, which showcases the blossoming songwriting of the younger Gallagher (Better Man is an album highlight). It would be a bad sign if nobody cared about the new album, so in doing things wrong, they must be doing something right!!!!!
Andrew Burns, Wales

If you don't like Oasis then don't buy the album.

This is what Oasis are all about, it's a true return to form. All of those people going on about the fact that Oasis haven't moved on their sound need to take a step back and think about what they're saying. Their first two albums were the best, then they tried to move it on a bit. That didn't work so they went back to basics.

And I for one are happy they did.
Andy, UK

I love it! But then again, I'm the idiot who likes Standing on the Shoulder of Giants more than Definitely Maybe. So don't mind me.
Nick, Australia

Great comeback with an innovative change of sound. This album is more influenced by country western ballads from the likes of Neil Diamond, Willie Nielson, and Hank Williams. Songs like Songbird and Little by Little, show a new change of direction towards the Neil Young and the Dylan side of country rock. Can't wait to see them live - put the Beatles records in the box ,the boys are going out on the range to sing country music like the good ol' days. Great new sound, great that they are back.
Jonny, Ireland

Not as good as their first two albums but better than the last two. The only criticism I have is that it's a bit short on running time. However, it has some classic tunes from Noel with great contributions from Liam and the two new boys. Great stuff.
Mark Middleton, United Kingdom

People love comparing Oasis albums old and new, but try to look at this album objectively and for its own merits, it's simply a very good album.
Chris, UK

It's obvious from the comments so far that a lot of people haven't even listened to the album and are slagging it off just because it is Oasis. I think this is a very good album and it definitely gets better with each listen.
Mike DB, England

Parts of Heathen Chemistry are quality, the rest is just average, and that's what separates Heathen Chemistry from Definitely Maybe and Morning Glory. I disagree with those who say that Liam's tracks are the best. Noel writes the songs that sound like Oasis. If Noel had written the whole of the album, it would have been up there with DM and WTSMG.

People want Oasis to sound like Oasis, and as someone else said, who cares if it's predictable because it's what people like. Why should they change their sound? It's worked so far, and it went wrong with SOTSOG because it didn't sound like proper Oasis. They're on the right tracks, and I feel better is to come. Keep it up!
Ben Jones, England

Heathen Chemistry's production is flat and dull - the sound of the album rarely fills out the stereo canvas like past Oasis tracks, a quality which made those releases unique (if you could stand all the din). In addition, the lyrical content and scope of the album seems watered-down - wimpy, if you will - I suppose we have sobriety and fatherhood to thank for the taming of the brothers you love to hate.

The album is obviously a stab at maturity and a clean, polished "Oasis Mach II" - a departure from 1996. But Heathen Chemistry isn't even close to being as fresh or unexpected as Morning Glory a good six or seven years ago. It is uneven, depressingly adult, and (save for a few inspired moments in which Noel dusts off his Rain/Paperback Writer double-A-side) as squeaky-clean as a Bryan Adams effort.

Even when they're trying new things (notably sappy, acoustic love songs like Songbird and She is Love), the boys sound wistful for the hard-drinking, coke-snorting days of yore.

Look, Noel, if you just give it a few more years and a couple more disappointing albums, you can safely make your triumphant, nostalgic "return to form" and launch a giant comeback arena tour. Hey, it worked for Bono.
Nick, USA

Once again people are enjoying ripping Oasis for the sheer fun of it. Listen to the album, especially tracks 1 -11 and you will see that they truly are the best band in the world. Songbird and all in my mind should become classics.
Hank Thompson, United States

I think this album is the best thing to come from Oasis in a few long time. It sends you right back to the Definitely Maybe, Morning Glory era. A comfortable mix of upbeat and mellow, I know it leaves me in a "feel good about rock music again mood!" WELCOME BACK BOYS!!
Bay, USA

It's just a very good album, pure and simple. My personal faves are She Is Love, Hindu Times and Songbird! Well done lads!!
Ben H, Bedford, UK

Why so many bad reviews for the new album? Can't people see that there is a great record there. Sure, the press over the years have built Oasis into music gods, and a new record will always be easy to slate. But all doubters just listen to the songs and you will find that the old Oasis are back to their old glorious days.
Roly, England

This is a great album that will become more respected with time. Songbird, All In The Mind, Stop Crying, The Hindu Times, She Is Love...all great/nice tunes. Oasis albums have always made us happy to be alive and this one is no different. For everyone who is worried about innovation and new styles of music, give it a rest. In thirty years, Oasis albums will still sound classic and wonderful. They are real, they are great, and they are going to live forever!
Nathan, USA

A few classic songs and the rest are growing on me with each listen. A very good album, definitely one of their top three albums. I always find it very hard to judge new Oasis albums (I sometimes wish I could listen to them having never heard an Oasis song before) but I'm sure I will listen to this album a lot more than I listened to the last two.

Got the album the other day. Read everyone's reviews on here before I listened to it. It's no Definitely Maybe, it's no Morning Glory, but what it is, is a brand new Oasis sound. New songwriting, new sounds. And there are some classic Oasis tunes on this record. Little by Little is good enough to be one of Oasis' best ever B-sides, that's how good it is. The songs written by Liam sound childlike in comparison to the ones penned by Noel and Gem.

Andy Bell's A Quick Peep is the Doors mixed with Eric Clapton. A few "rip offs" of classic tunes, but isn't that why we love Oasis so much?! Because they can (and do) rip songs off in such a way that gives us such a beautiful new song. We will all be singing to many songs on this record over the summer. Well done, Oasis you are back and with a vengeance... just don't go away for too long again!
Russell, England

Why, oh why are people saying Oasis have had their day?

Upon release of the last two albums, knives have been sharpened and critics and fans have questioned why Oasis don't produce an album of pop/rock songs.

We sit here today with a gem of an album matching that pop/rock genre and people still criticise?

What do you people want?
Langdon Olger, UK

Some of the comments on this list are a disgrace. Oasis are definitely NOT past it or should they quit. This album is superb, up there with DM and WTSMG. And those who keep jumping on "the Beatles rip-off" bandwagon please do us all a favour and keep quiet. Only Born on a Different Cloud sounds anything like the Beatles on this album or say the last three albums! Oasis are back and as Noel said "We are the most important band in the world".
Simon, England

Although most of the songs are pretty damn good, the album as a whole doesn't have the same sort of energy as the first two albums. They definitely have a more mature sound, but I'm not sure that's a good thing. Maybe they should try something a little different (a la Radiohead et all) for the next album. Times are changing and Oasis aren't.
Ross Aitken, UK

This album is the first Oasis album that after the first listen I instantly liked. The first two albums were growers which was shown by the way Live Forever only charted at 10, before the so-called band wagon started. I think as an Oasis fan since 1993 that this is the most consistent album they have ever released, you won't find anything rubbish like Shakermaker or Hey Now on this album. People should get off their backs, they may not be able to produce an album as good as Definitely Maybe again but have U2 ever produced an album as good as The Joshua Tree?
Gareth Jones, UK

I listened to the new Oasis and my first thought of the album is its great!! OK, it's not as good as the first!! But it is better then the rest!! Even Morning Glory!! That album is a killer but there are songs like Hey Now and She's Electric that I skip on each listen. Heathen Chemistry is more of a solid album!!! I listened to the album with a smile on my face, that's how I know it's good. I've been reading a lot of reviews that say it is too mid-tempo, but so was Morning Glory, that proves people are just criticising 'cause it's cool!!!
Bob Brown, USA

This new album is hard to predict. I am a mad Oasis fan, with all their albums, and it does take time to rate an album (waiting until all the excitement and hype is over etc). But first impressions tell me that this album is up there with the best of the Oasis stuff, and Liam has shown that he can write quality songs, especially, Born On A Different Cloud. An album that will probably go down as one of my faves. It has picked up the pieces that SOTSOG didn't. A great album.
Thomas-Liam Ryan, Australia

A great album by the lads, finding a new mature style of writing and singing from the older albums, Noel on lead vocals for the first time gives a variety in the songs, Force of Nature and Little by Little are fantastic.
Simon MC, England

In my opinion one of the best albums since OK Computer, and that's saying something. Back to the exciting days of Morning Glory. Good thing. Superb album and can't wait to see them live in September.
Ben, England

A superb return to form after two contrived efforts. Oasis at their least self-conscious. Second best album after Definitely Maybe. Yes, you read correctly, better than the patchy Morning Glory.
Bryan Neary, UK

Why people are expecting Oasis to be as progressively dangerous as Radiohead and as experimental as The Beta Band is beyond comprehension. They are Oasis for god's sake and they do soul lifting rock melodies the likes of which have been missing since The Stone Roses disbanded. It's a good, well produced, beautifully written album. They are doing what they do best, they are awesome live and still give you that tingling when the chorus kicks in, just as The Roses, Teenage Fanclub and The Charlatans did and do still. They will do a U2 sooner or later. So quit moaning and enjoy it.
Mat Flat, UK

Another Oasis album comes out, oh how I winced when I put this in my CD player, flashbacks of the frankly awful Standing On The Shoulder Of Giants and frantic noise and over-production of Be Here Now came rushing back to me. Enough to give any grown man a cold sweat!!

What a refreshing change in Heathen Chemistry (terrible album title aside) this album is quite frankly brilliant. Songbird, Better Man, Hindu Times, Stop Crying Your Heart Out, Born on a Different Cloud and Little by Little are all Oasis gems. This album of course sounds like Oasis, if it didn't I wouldn't have bought it!

But it seems fresher, more vibrant and more varied then Oasis albums of old. Of course it's not back to the brilliance of Definitely Maybe but then again no band has come close to capturing the brilliance of that album since its release nearly 10 years ago! All in all a brilliant album putting Oasis firmly back on track.

To all those who have slagged and slated this album just think if this was a new up and coming band that released this album they would be again be hailed as the best thing since the Beatles, a shot in the arm for guitar music. All I will say is take this album as it stands on its own merits, not on past glories and it won't disappoint you.
Adam Metcalf, UK

A masterpiece - Liam's tunes are scarily good - did he really write them? Hung in a Bad Place is as good as anything they've ever done - can't wait for the gigs.
Daniel, Australia

When you're this far from home nothing soothes the soul more than old school Oasis, and this album really is testimony to their older stuff, yeah, sure, it's cool to bag Oasis but most of you people obviously donżt see what it is about, the boys that make them, I have only one question to ask you... At what point in your life did you go out and buy Definitely Maybe?

Post-Morning Glory Iżm sure! Iżm also sure most of you are idiots probably bought the new Britney Spears album yesterday and would rather listen to that. You wouldn't know good British rock'n'roll if it smacked you in the face like a pair oż wet knickers!!!!
Mick, Brit in Australia

I remember a quote from Noel years ago saying that Oasis were only a three album band and would split up after that! Sadly they were only just a two album band and never split up. Go it alone Noel and do some experimentation to stop all your tunes sounding the same!
