Hollywood star Charlie Sheen has married actress Denise Richards, who played James Bond's scientist sidekick in The World Is Not Enough.

Sheen and Richards began dating after the pair appeared together in the sitcom Spin City in 2001.

They married at the home of the show's producer, Gary David Goldberg, on Saturday, Sheen's publicist said.

The couple both wore specially-made Giorgio Armani outfits for the Catholic ceremony, which was attended by family members including the groom's father, actor Martin Sheen.

She wore a white satin gown and crystal beaded jacket, while he had a two-button tuxedo jacket.

The pair first met when Richards played Sheen's girlfriend in the 2000 comedy film Good Advice.

Sheen, 36, is best-known for his roles in seminal 1980s movies like Platoon and Wall Street, and for taking over from Michael J Fox in Spin City, the hit TV comedy set in the New York Mayor's office.

He won a Golden Globe award for the role as Deputy Mayor Charlie Crawford in 2002.

Convicted

He was also known for his wild behaviour, and had been on probation for two years for alcohol and drug abuse until 1999.

He accidentally shot a former fiancée, Kelly Preston, in the arm in 1990, and was convicted of battery against a former girlfriend in 1996.

This is Sheen's second marriage. He has a 18-year-old daughter, Cassandra, by high school sweetheart Paula Profitt.

He was also exposed by notorious Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss as one of her clients.

Richards, 31, made her name in films including Starship Troopers and Wild Things, and went on to play nuclear physicist Dr Christmas Jones in The World Is Not Enough in 1999.

"I've never been happier. I've met my perfect man, and this marriage is going to last," she recently told a newspaper.
