Sven and Ulrika under the spotlight
Sunday's front pages
Sven and Ulrika are all over Sunday's front pages
Ulrika Jonsson, Sven-Goran Eriksson and his girlfriend Nancy Dell'Olio are keeping a low profile as speculation about their love lives dominates the Sunday newspapers.

Leaving her Berkshire home at lunchtime Jonsson smiled, but refused to speak to reporters before she was driven away.

The England manager, asked through the intercom at his London home if he had any comments on the media reports, said: "Nothing. Bye bye."

Ms Dell'Olio dismissed reports she has lost Eriksson to the TV star as "rubbish", but for much of the British media the prospect of the match made in Sweden was too good to ignore.

Among the claims are that it was 'love at first sight' for Jonsson and that 'pint-sized' Eriksson leaves his built-up boots outside her bedroom to warn the nanny when he is visiting.

Neither has confirmed or denied the reports, but the presenter's mother has said she thinks the couple "have a future together".

'Own conclusions'

The News of the World claims that Ulrika's nanny caught the Swedish duo in a compromising position.

I think it's interesting that neither Sven or Ulrika have denied any of the reports

Gary Thompson
Its features editor, Gary Thompson, would not reveal the source of his story, but he insists it is true.

He told the BBC: "I think if you read our report this morning it clearly describes the details of the relationship.

"We have spoken to people who know Ulrika very well, we have also spoken to people who know Sven very well.

"I think it's interesting that neither Sven or Ulrika have denied any of the reports and I think you draw your own conclusions from that."

'Swept off her feet'

The story dominated the other tabloids, with the Sunday People claiming Eriksson has defied Jonsson's ultimatums to insist he cannot leave Ms Dell'Olio until after the World Cup.

The Sunday Mirror claims the duo spent a night at the England coach's Portuguese villa.

And Vanessa Feltz, writing in the Sunday Express, claims she was there when the Shooting Stars panellist was swept off her feet.

The broadsheets were similarly interested in the prospect of an affair.

Media intrusion could force Eriksson to abandon the England team, the Sunday Telegraph claimed.

'Happy together'

Jonsson's mother added to the speculation when she told a Swedish newspaper she believes her daughter and Eriksson "have a future together".

Gun Brodie said: "They have been very happy together, they have enjoyed each other's company very much."

But Eriksson's mother, Ulla Eriksson, was considerably less forthcoming about the friendship.

She said: "The boy is over 50 years. You can teach children to walk but you can't tell them what road to take."

'I'm with my man'

On Saturday Ms Dell'Olio told reporters: "I'm with my man, leave us alone."

Through an intercom the 37-year-old, insisted: "We're still together and we're talking together. What the papers are saying is rubbish. It's the facts we're talking about."

Speculation about the nature of the friendship intensified when Jonsson's agent, Melanie Cantor, refused to deny reports linking them.

Paul Newman, head of communications for the Football Association, also failed to quell the rumours when he said: "This is entirely a private matter."
