X-Press 2: Your views
DJs Ashley Beedle and Rocky and Diesel
X-Press 2 have had success in the singles chart
X-Press 2's single Lazy with David Byrne went straight to number two in the singles charts and now they are hoping for similar success with their album Muzikizum.

The dance act, comprising of DJs Ashley Beedle and Rocky and Diesel, create a sound which harks back to the deep house of the late 80s/early 90s.

"But as a dance album, it falls well short of breaking new ground - on the contrary, it has touches of retrospection which evoke memories rather than excite. They could almost be accused of being a touch Lazy," says BBC News Online's Michael Osborn.

"Whether this act will manage to progress beyond the instant success of their new hit remains to be seen," he added.

But what do you think?

Is this just retro house music for nostalgic 30-somethings? Or does it break new ground?

X-press 2 have been known for their differences in DJing i.e. six decks, three people but can they cut it on production? Well, just the fact they received Best Producer award last year goes to show they have something to shout about - their infectious house sound being noted (and played) by many.

The album does have a slightly retro house sound to it but also encompasses the new progressive sound that has been rather dominant over the past couple of years - many of the tracks here will be recognised on the dancefloor - Smoke Machine, Muzikizum as well as Lazy amongst others.

A good first outing and with a whole host of credible remixes done and due this will only go to enhancing their status on the dance scene. But can they crack it in the charts - if Lazy is anything to go by... then I guess yes but as all breakthrough/cross-over artists have to prove - only time will tell.

Lazy still sounds great, but I'm afraid the rest comes across as rather dull.

"Wickedly lazy" and I don't mean that in the finger clicking 80s kind of wicked way either.

For anyone that is not aware X-Press 2 have been around since the emergence of house music. Their album represents a broad spectrum of influences spanning the past 20 years. Whoever wrote this review is obviously not fully au fait with what is past, present and future. X2 are pioneers not afraid to try new things. Respect. The album is great and will cater for anyone that has an appreciation for all genres of house music.
