BBC One is getting rid of the globe theme that has featured in the channel's "idents" or clips between shows since it was born in 1964. BBC News Online takes a trip down memory lane.
The globe was on BBC One when the channel launched in 1964
Other variations on the globe were introduced shortly after
The logo turned to colour in 1969
The first globe to be electronically-enhanced was introduced in the 1970s
The BBC abandoned mechanical globes for a computer-generated one in 1985
The next change of style took place in 1991
Hot air balloons were given globe patterns in 1997
2002's BBC One idents do not have a globe in sight
