Jamie Oliver becomes a father
TV chef Jamie Oliver and his wife Jools are celebrating the birth of their baby girl.
Poppy Honey was born at on Monday and hit the scales at 7lb 14oz, four days after she was due. A spokesman for the host of BBC Two's Naked Chef cookery show said they were "delighted" with their new addition. He added: "All concerned are doing well."
Reeve convinced he will walk Christopher Reeve has said he is not giving up hope of being able to walk again - even though he may not manage it by his 50th birthday in September. Reeve, whose spinal cord was damaged after he fell from a horse in 1995, has campaigned tirelessly for a cure for paralysis. He had promised he would walk by his 50th birthday, and believes lifting US restrictions on stem cell research could hold a cure. To keep fit, Reeve rides a bike 10 miles a day three times a week while using electrical stimulation to move his legs.
Britney shunned by Swedish fans Britney Spears received a quiet reception in Stockholm when she arrived in the Swedish capital to promote her new film Crossroads. Only two young girls had taken time off school to wait outside her Stockholm hotel to get a glimpse of Spears as prepared for the première of her film Crossroads. It follows a Swedish fan shutting down his popular Britney Spears fan site in protest at the her aloof relationship with her fans. Ruben Garay, 20, closed his World of Britney site with the message: "She's just not the same girl that I once looked up to, the one that would be sweet, tender and would really care about her fans and show it openly." Lawyer sues over "pornographic" film A lawyer is asking a court to ban a movie dealing with premarital sex, telling the judge it was "pornographic" and damaging to public morality. Nabih el-Wahsh is suing the female director of the film Memoirs of a Teenage Girl, as well as the minister of culture and the director of censorship in Egypt. "There is nothing more harmful than the continued screening of this movie, which violates the constitution, law, customs, traditions and morals of Egyptian Society," el-Wahsh told Cairo's Abdin Court for urgent cases. Mr El-Wahsh previously asked a court to divorce feminist writer Nawal el-Saadawi from her husband, citing her views deviated from Islam. The court action failed.
Your Song Elton fans' favourite Elton John fans in the UK have voted his hit Your Song, from 1971, their favourite track. In Saturday night's live concert from New York, broadcast on ITV 1, Sir Elton played the songs fans had selected in the seven-week poll. Your Song was followed in the top five by Candle in the Wind, Sacrifice, Crocodile Rock and Daniel. The song was given a recent revival when it was used as a recurring theme in Baz Luhrmann's spectacular movie Moulin Rouge.
Peter Pan sequel premières in London Comedian Harry Enfield and actor Philip Schofield have helped raise money for for sick children today by attending the launch of Disney's sequel to Peter Pan. Disney has already pledged £105,000 ($150,000) to the Great Ormond Street Hospital. More than 1,000 young people gathered at London's Leicester Square for the UK premiere of Return to Never Land. A Disney spokeswoman said she hoped the event had raised at least another £2,000 ($2,800) for Great Ormond Street.
