The first episode of the weekly hour-long chat show, Sarah... Surviving Life, has been broadcast on Sky One as part of a 10 week run. The idea behind the programme is that each week the duchess will interview people who have been through difficult experiences, and will discuss with her guests how they have overcome their problems. In the first episode the duchess interviewed: Caroline Roberts, who was raped by Fred West; Eileen Drewery, faith healer; a woman who had survived a car crash; and a man who had accidentally killed someone. Last month the duchess experienced tragedy herself when her mother was killed in a car accident in Argentina. Elisabeth Murdoch, General Manager, Broadcasting at Sky television said: "Having been through so much in her own life, Sarah has a unique ability to connect with other people by sharing common experiences. "She is a natural in front of the camera and has a real talent for television," she said. The duchess landed the job after an appearance on American Television earlier in the year when she was promoting her own cook book - but wryly admitted that she couldn't actually cook. She has also promised to give her wage cheque for Sarah... Surviving Life to the various charities that will feature in the series.
