All Saints top MTV nominations
All Saints: Suprise guest star to replace Melanie
The clash of Britain's all-girl bands continues apace after All Saints beat the Spice Girls in the nomination for the MTV Europe Music Awards.
Shaznay, Melanie Cicole and Nathalie came top of the list jointly with America's Beastie Boys.
Other artists who did well include Natalie Imbruglia, Madonna and Eagle Eye Cherry with three nominations each. The Spice Girls, who won Best Group in last year's awards, only received two.
All Saints picked nominations for Best Song, Best Album, Best Group and Best Breakthrough Artists.
The group has enjoyed phenomenal success with three number-one singles and two Brit Awards earlier this year.
"We're really glad we have been nominated for four nominations," said group member Shaznay Lewis, who was with fellow band members Nicole and Natalie Appleton.
Natalie added: "We are really looking forward to going to Milan and collaborating with another artist and, yeah, we're really excited."
The band will name their new member at a later date.
Best artists are nominated by MTV viewers by phone, post, email and through HMV music stores.
The awards, now in their fifth year, will be presented by model and MTV star Jenny McCarthy.
Other acts performing at the show include REM, Robbie Williams, Madonna and Five and Aqua. Guests presenters will be George Michael, Natalie Imbruglia, Skunk Anansie and B*Witched.
Brent Hansen, President of MTV Networks Europe, said of the awards: "They were created to honour the music that Europe loves and we've never deviated from that aim. It's the definitive poll of European music tastes."
Edited highlights of the show will be screened on ITV network in a show to be fronted by presenters Ant and Dec.
