Disney sequels on way
Walt Disney's Cinderella II
Disney has pledged to keep the original style of animation
Walt Disney is to release a sequel to its famous 1950 cartoon feature Cinderella on 11 February.

Cinderella II, which includes four new songs, will follow the story of the fairy tale character after her marriage to Prince Charming.

Other sequels are to follow, including Peter Pan II in March - in which Wendy's daughter Jane revisits Never Land during World War II.

Dumbo II and The Jungle Book II will follow later in the year.

'Enchanting'

Anthony Peet, the Marketing Director, of Disney distributor Buena Vista Home Entertainment said: "For some years now Disney has been releasing sequels to some of its most popular films.

"We ensure that these films retain all of the key elements which made the originals so enchanting to previous generations."

"The traditional values of the original fables are maintained - and the original style of animation is replicated in these new adventures," said Mr Peet.

Disney has been particularly anxious to reassure potential critics of the move that the charm of the original films has been preserved.

A Buena Vista spokeswoman told BBC News Online: "If you look at Cinderella II, it's done in exactly the same style of animation - and if you look back at last year's Lady And The Tramp II there's that continuity."

Most of the new sequels will be going straight to video and DVD, but Peter Pan II and Jungle Book II will also receive theatrical releases.

Sequels to Beauty And The Beast, Aladdin and Lion King have already been released for home viewing.
