Garth Brooks has "retired" from touring
Country singer Garth Brooks has finally divorced his wife of 15 years, more than two years after they separated.

The 39-year-old filed for divorce from Sandy on the grounds of irreconcilable differences.

Although the papers were filed in November 2000, they revealed the couple had been separated since March 1999.

The pair have three daughters aged four, six and eight.

Brooks has sold more than 100 million albums and helped the resurgence of country and western music.

Navy aircraft carrier

He announced his retirement from touring in 1999, to the disappointment of his many fans.

The previous year he had sold 5.3 million tickets for his 100-city tour.

He also took a break from touring in 1992 when he cancelled a string of concerts so he could be with his family.

Earlier this year he gave a welcome home concert for the crew of Navy aircraft carrier USS Enterprise and their families as they returned from extended deployment.

Making history

At the time he said it was not a permanent return to the live circuit, but a deal with the CBS television network to screen four specials had enticed him back.

Brooks' top selling albums include 1990's No Fences and Grammy-winning Ropin' the Wind in 1991, which was the first album in history to debut at number one in the Billboard pop and country charts.

He has received almost every music award in both country and pop fields, including a total of 13 American Music Awards.
