Sgt Pepper steals Geri's limelight

McCartney's notebook: About to outshine Geri Halliwell's Union flag dress
Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell's Union flag dress will line up alongside the draft lyrics to the Beatles' Hey Jude when they go under the hammer at London auction house Sotheby's.

Ms Halliwell's stage outfits and other mementoes of her Spice Girls days are the centre-piece of the two-day sale.

Lots include the Union flag dress she wore to the 1997 Brit Awards, valued at 12,000, and the red MGB roadster which she bought with her first royalty cheque.

Organisers want to raise over 50,000 for the Sargent Cancer Care For Children charity with the 80 lots donated by the singer.

But the sale of the erstwhile Ginger Spice's frock is likely to be overshadowed by bidding for the notebook in which Paul McCartney drafted the lyrics for Hey Jude and part of the Sergeant Pepper Lonely Hearts Club Band album.

The book, which also contains jottings, doodles and notes, was compiled by road manager Mal Evans between 1967 and 1968. It is expected to fetch between 90,000 and 120,000.

Beatles fans can also bid for Ringo Starr's 1966 Mini Cooper, fully restored and on sale for 30,000.

As well as the Spice Girls and Beatles memorabilia, there is also a guitar signed by the members of Oasis with a message from songwriter Noel Gallagher, "Play Harder".

There are also items from the Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix.

The 501 lots go on sale on Tuesday and Wednesday.
