Kylie keeps Jackson from top spot
Minogue is topping both the single and album charts
Kylie Minogue has topped the charts for a fourth week, and not even Michael Jackson's first single for four years was able to dislodge her.
After defeating Victoria Beckham, Minogue is able to add superstar Michael Jackson to her list of pop conquests, although he had been on target to succeed at the mid-week point.
It had been expected that the release of Minogue's album would reduce her single sales, but it was not enough to dent her stint at the top. The two stars' albums will not compete until Jackson's Invincible is released later this month. Jackson, who is not short of fans, had plenty of airplay and an extensive advertising campaign for his single, but it entered the charts at number two. Chart success The mid-week sales revealed it had been 2,000 singles ahead of Minogue's. Jackson's defeat will increase the pressure on him when Invincible is released - it is his first album for six years. Although he is famed globally for his longstanding chart success, in recent years it has not been so evident. His last single, History, in 1997, made it to number five, although that followed a number one single, Blood On The Dancefloor, just months earlier. Minogue's single is only the second this year to stay at the top for four weeks, alongside Atomic Kitten's Whole Again.
