New York stages Diana musical
Diana, Princess of Wales
Diana is played by a relatively unknown actress
The life of Diana, Princess of Wales, is to be set to music in an upcoming show preparing to hit the stage.

The musical Queen of Hearts is to open in New York in October.

The musical was penned by playwright Stephen Stahl, who describes it as a "very loving and basically straightforward portrait of Diana".

He added: "This may sound corny, but I wrote this because I felt I had to write this.

"It came from my heart. In reality, it is what it is. If I never make a penny, I get it out of me, I wrote it. It's done."

The off-Broadway production has cast unknowns in the central roles of Diana and Charles.

Camilla Parker Bowles, Dodi Fayed and Diana's two sons William and Harry also feature.

A staged reading of the show will be held at the Grove Street Playhouse in New York on 31 August, the first anniversary of Diana's death in a car crash in Paris.
