Posh Spice tops book chart
The Beckhams recently appeared on Parkinson
Victoria Beckham's autobiography has flown to the top of the bestsellers list knocking Robbie Williams into second place.
Posh Spice had been at number four in last week's chart but increased sales of more than 4,000 copies have put her in the number one spot. Williams had held the position last week but sales of his Somebody Someday have dropped by more than 3,000. Booktrack, which compiles the book chart, suggested that Victoria's recent appearance on Parkinson could explain the sudden surge in sales.
The show featuring Victoria and David Beckham clocked up more than nine million viewers "National publicity can make huge differences to book sales," said Booktrack's media liaison Susan Wakefield. "With Captain Corelli's Mandolin the BBC did a documentary in September 1998 on the author Louis de Bernière . "Although the book had been selling steadily it shot to the top of the charts and stayed there for a number of weeks." Outselling Beckham may have triumphed in the book chart but the singer is finding the music charts a much tougher battle. Kylie Minogue beat her to the top of the singles chart two weeks ago, after Can't Get You Out of My Head outsold Posh Spice's debut offering, Not Such an Innocent Girl, by eight to one. This weekend the two singers are going head to head in the album charts. Mid-week figures indicate Minogue's Fever is heading for the top spot after outselling Beckham's self-titled offering by six to one.
