ITV confirms Twiggy axe
Twiggy and Coleen Nolan
Twiggy and Coleen Nolan replaced Richard and Judy
Former model Twiggy Lawson has been dropped from ITV1's daytime programme This Morning just one month after joining the show.

She had been criticised by viewers for having a "wooden" style after taking over from previous presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan at the start of September.

The show's ratings have dipped below one million viewers since presenters Twiggy, former Nolan Sisters singer Coleen Nolan and John Leslie took over, presenting in rotation.

Fern Britton, who is currently on maternity leave, will return to the show in November. The former Ready, Steady Cook presenter and Leslie previously presented the show each Friday.

A spokesman for the show said: "We are grateful for Twiggy's contribution to the launch of the programme and wish her the very best of luck in her many other projects."

He confirmed that Twiggy would not be seen on the show again, having presented her last one on Friday.

The channel received complaints from viewers who said Twiggy, 51, did not live up to the standards set by her predecessors.

But the spokesman said the transition had not had a major impact on viewing figures.

The show is currently attracting 27% of the available audience, compared with 29% during the same period last year, he said.

"Our ratings are rising on week on week basis," he added.

Twiggy had been contracted to appear until December.

ITV will honour the contract, expected to be worth tens of thousands, although they refused to reveal the figure.

Twiggy became one of the world's leading models in the 1960s before embarking on an acting career.

She won two Golden Globe awards for her role in Ken Russell's The Boyfriend and earned a Tony nomination in the Broadway musical My One and Only.

Husband and wife team Richard Madeley and Judy Finnegan left This Morning for Channel 4 after 13 years on the show.

Their send-off on their final programme saw 1.8 million viewers tune in.
