Golf

Hope has always been a keen golfer and crowds would always gather when he, and Bing Crosby, played charity tournaments all over the world. Hope's partners also included some of the 10 American presidents he counted among his friends.

'Road To' films

Hope found Hollywood stardom in the "Road To" films with Bing Crosby. The pair would vie for the affections of Dorothy Lamour. But the bumbling, over anxious lover played by Hope, would pave the way for Lamour, to fall into the arms of the suave Crosby.

Hope's knighthood is in recognition of his work entertaining troops
Honours

The Guinness Book of World Records cites Hope as being the most honoured entertainer. On hearing he was to be awarded an honorary knighthood by the Queen in 1998, he said: "Seventy years of ad-lib material and I'm speechless."
