Kylie trounces Posh in chart battle
Minogue had been apprehensive about the clash
Kylie Minogue has trounced Victoria Beckham in the race for number one position in this week's pop charts.
Minogue's Can't Get You Out Of My Head went straight in at number one after selling more than 300,000 copies.
Beckham's first solo release Not Such An Innocent Girl could only manage sixth position and was outsold by Bob The Builder. A spokeswoman for Minogue said that she was "thrilled" by this success, her sixth number one. "When she heard she was number one, she screamed at the top of her voice and danced around her dressing room," the spokeswoman said. Minogue's sales had already made her single one of the biggest first-day sellers of the year, after Hear'Say and Shaggy.
"Victoria is pleased to have a top ten hit," the spokeswoman said. Last week's number one, Hey Baby by German DJ Otzi, was pushed into second place. The tune, which was a hit over the summer in the clubs and bars of holiday destinations like Tenerife, is a version of Bruce Channel's 1962 hit. Another new release - Smooth Criminal by Alien Ant Farm - took third place. This is a rock cover of Michael Jackson's song. Shaggy's new release Luv Me, Luv Me took fifth position behind Mambo Number 5 by Bob The Builder.
