Moore: Man of many talents
Moore was born in Dagenham, east London, in 1935
Multi-talented entertainer Dudley Moore made his mark in British comedy before becoming an unlikely Hollywood star and sex symbol. Off-screen he found real life a tougher challenge and was plagued with anxiety and depression.
Dudley Moore teamed up with Peter Cook for the television series, Not Only But Also, in which Moore was able to display his musical versatility and break new ground as half of Pete and Dud, cafe philosophers.
In Success Story: Peter Cook and Dudley Moore, Moore reveals his acting ambitions upon leaving Oxford University and is critical of one aspect of his musical talent.
Moore taught himself to play the organ at his local church in Dagenham, east London. He tells Esther Rantzen about his talent for music which took him to Oxford University on a scholarship.
Peter Cook and Dudley Moore appeared as guests on Wogan and described how they first met, before going on to write and perform the satirical revue, Beyond the Fringe, with Alan Bennett and Jonathan Miller.
