Bomb blast movie pulled
John Travolta

The action movie Swordfish - in which the foyer of a glass-clad building is exploded - is to be withdrawn from cinemas.

Odeon Cinemas has decided to pull the film following the collapse of the World Trade Center in New York.

"We can confirm that Swordfish has been withdrawn from our screens," said a spokesman for Odeon Cinemas which had been showing the film.

Hugh Jackman

The film stars John Travolta and Halle Berry in a high action hacker drama set in Los Angeles.

A climax scene from the movie shows hostages who have been tied up as human bombs in the foyer of an international bank.

Travolta plays a misguided counter-terrorist who walks out on peace-talks taking place in the bank, with disastrous effects.

A hostage panics and runs for the door, setting off the bomb and causing a catastrophic explosion.

The decision to withdraw the movie came from its distributors, Warner Brothers.

Warner had offices in the World Trade Center.

A UK spokeswoman for the company would not comment on the decision on Wednesday.

But the Odeon Cinema spokesman confirmed that the withdrawal was at their request.

"It's been done at the distributor's request and it's a position that Odeon totally supports," he said.
